4 Pakistani soldiers killed in Afghanistan border shooting

Four Pakistani soldiers have been killed in a shootout with gunmen inside the Afghan border. At least six others were injured. The injured have been admitted to a hospital in nearby Quetta city. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of the Pakistan Army said in a statement.

The statement said the attack took place on Wednesday near the town of Jhab in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province. A group of troops was monitoring the construction of a fence on the Afghan border. At that time, the gunmen opened fire from across the border. In response, Pakistani troops also fired back. The Pakistani military did not provide details.

Pakistan began building fences along the Afghan border in 2016 to prevent the free movement, illegal trafficking, and infiltration of terrorists. They claim that the construction of fences has already been completed in 85 percent of the 2,611 km border with Afghanistan. The Afghan government has not recognized these borders.
