The Iranian ship sank in the fire

A large Iranian ship named 'Kharg' sank in the Gulf of Oman.

The incident took place near the southern Iranian port of Jask on Wednesday. However, the cause of the fire is still unclear, according to Qatar-based Al Jazeera.

The Iranian military says the ship was used as a training ship and had about 400 crew members and trainees. The ship sank in the fire, but everyone on board was rescued unharmed. However, 20 crew members were slightly injured.

According to the army, a rescue operation was carried out for 20 hours to rescue the ship that caught fire in the early hours of Wednesday. Yet the ship could not be saved from sinking.

A photo taken on the last night of the ship shows crew members wearing life jackets running, flames blazing behind them. On the other hand, another image taken during the day shows the massive smoke created by the fire in the sky.

The Iranian military did not say what caused the fire. However, a local army official said the fire started from the engine room. A part of the ship melted in the fire and fell into the sea.
